Yearlong Leadership Programs
The Hawaii Leaders Core is more than just a yearlong program, it’s a life long family where we invite future leaders to join. At our meetings, students are welcomed into our open loving community, have access to continuously learn new leadership skills, be mentored by highly trained coaches, and have access to internships ranging from public speaking to cardiology. We also involve the families heavily and offer programs for them as well. As part of our mission, the Hawaii Leaders Core also gives back to the community through community events. We often part with other nonprofit organizations and offer our help and support.
International Travel
We are proud to offer life changing trips to leadership event all over the world regardless of a student’s financial background. We offer scholarships on average of $2,500 but can reach over $6,000 per student. We partner with our sister non-profit, Ignite a Life, that is open to contributions from gracious donors around the world and right here at home who are committed to raising our next generation of leaders. Events that we travel to often include learning and appreciating a native culture. Leaders attend world class seminars like The Anthony Robbins Foundation’s Global Youth Leadership Summit at UC San Diego, The Magic Moments Foundation’s Youth Leadership Summit In Sydney Australia, and countless other events.
Leadership in Hawaii
As part of our Speakers Of Hawaii Series, we partner world renowned speakers along with our own aspiring youth speakers. This team goes on to speak in public and private school across Hawaii on topics ranging from emotional intelligence, team building, overcoming poverty and rising above suicide.
We also host our very own youth leadership programs where students from around the world and Hawaii can come and learn leadership skills in one to seven-day events. These events invite the adventurous spirit by embracing the unique values of the Hawaiian culture intertwined with the best leadership training brought in from all over the world. Our events range from small groups traveling to a Kaho’olawe for restoration and Hawaiian culture, to speaking tours, or to our monthly meetings.
Why We Exist
Discover more about why Hawaii Leaders was created, our Founder Alexander D. Muto, and the impact we are creating in Hawaii.
We are so grateful that Alex included my daughter, Lexie, in his vision of taking 40 students to GYLS. I thought this would be a great opportunity for my daughter who was pretty quiet. But I was wrong, and it was much much more! HLC and GYLS truly let Lexie blossom and discover what a big world we have and let her become the best version of Lexie with her own labels for herself. After four years in HLC, she won a scholarship to a University where she competed against 850 other students with similar qualifications. The interviews were key and she won a 4 year, full tuition, room and board with a direct entry into medical school scholarship. HLC has set her up for success to present herself with confidence and determination.
Valerie Leon, ParentWhen I discovered the Hawaii Leaders Core I was immediately intrigued. The way that Alex described it to me hooked me in right away. My brother was already involved with HLC and had gone to GYLS as an ambassador and encouraged me to join. I joined HLC my freshman year at age 14. Joining HLC has helped me to step outside of my comfort zone as a leader and as a friend. The best aspect of HLC to me, is our trip to GYLS over the summer. Being able to attend GYLS two years in a row now, has impacted my friendships, my family relationships, and my confidence. I am very proud to be apart of such a connecting, loving and inspirational leaders Core.
Naia Litman, StudentHawaii Leaders Core has benefited me by being a place to feel welcomed and become closer to others. It makes me want to push myself and others to being the best people we can be.
Wilson Tinkler, StudentI have witnessed all the kids involved in the HLC since the beginning and I cannot believe the tremendous amount of growth, maturity, sense of community, and overall feeling of well being that all of the kids involved have created.
